When wide receiver Tyreek Hill was traded to the Miami Dolphins prior to the start of the 2022 season, many questioned whether or not the wideout would be able to have the same success without Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback.
Hill, in his first season with the Dolphins, set career highs in receptions (119) and receiving yards (1,710) while finding the end zone eight total times. He also made the Pro Bowl for the seventh time and received All-Pro honors for the fourth time.
While Miami made the postseason for the first time since 2016, they were unable to win their wild-card matchup with the Buffalo Bills, keeping their postseason win drought alive.
On a recent episode of Hill’s podcast, “It Needed to be Said,” the wide receiver recapped the 2022 season and gave Dolphins fans a reason to be excited for the future.
“For me, though, I think the season went exactly as planned,” Hill said. “We was able to get my dawg Tua right. Get this whole offense on a path that it’s never seen before. We was like top five in every category in offense. I can’t talk for the defense. I’m talking offense only. My dawg Tua (Tagovailoa). My dawg J-Dub (Jaylen Waddle) and all of the playmakers. We was able to stick together and make plays all season through so much adversity, man.
“Miami Dolphins fans, that should get y’all amped for next year, dawg.. Each and every year is about building and we’re building into the right direction, man… Our head coach, the dude so smart, it’s crazy. I didn’t believe it, at first. When I signed with the Dolphins, I thought I was just getting myself into a trap. Coach (Mike) McDaniel will tell you ‘Bro, ‘Reek didn’t trust me. ‘Reek didn’t trust me at all.’ When I was able to actually able to sit down with our head coach and talk to him and actually see his brains for this game of football, bro. Like, how he can draw up plays, and his play call timing and all that. The dude really knows what he doing, and he’s what 37? 38?”
There’s a lot to be excited about in South Florida. McDaniel seems to be a bright, young coach who has the respect of his players because of his attitude and energy. The roster is also loaded with talent that should, if healthy, be considered a legitimate threat when the regular season comes around.
