Tyreek Hill has expressed his desire to break an NFL record this season - something which Lamar Jackson has also stated he wants to achieve.
Hill is getting ready for his second season with the Miami Dolphins after being traded from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. The wide receiver managed to achieve a career season-high total of 1,779 receiving yards in his debut season in Florida, including his post-season games.
The 29-year-old has explained how he wants to break the record for the most receiving yards in a single season. That record is currently held by former Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson who achieved 1,964 receiving yards in 2012.
That record was set when the NFL regular season was 16 games, which was increased to 17 in 2021. No player has ever achieved 2,000 receiving yards in a single regular season, but it’s a target that Hill has set for himself in 2023.
“Oh yeah, for sure [it’s a realistic goal],” Hill told ProFootballNetwork.com . “I think the added [17th] game gives me quite the advantage, so yeah.
“For me, not getting injured [is the key], coming in each and every day wanting to get better, wanting to be coached. And I feel like I’ve got the right tools around me
“I’ve got obviously the most accurate quarterback in the NFL. I’ve got one of the best head coaches in the NFL, and also my position coach is a monster.
“So, just having those three things and me just keeping the same mindset each and every day that I want to get better and I want to break the record, and I do want to break the record. So, I feel like this is one of those years that I can achieve it.”
Another player who is looking to break a record of his own is Lamar Jackson. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback is now among the highest paid players in the NFL after his new deal.
The Ravens agreed to a new five-year contract with Jackson that will see him earn $260 million with $185m guaranteed. The deal, which was signed in April, made Jackson, will see Jackson earn $52m per year which is the highest in the NFL.
After signing his deal, Jackson revealed his desire to achieve 6,000 passing yards this coming season. No player has ever achieved that number, with Peyton Manning holding the record with the Denver Broncos with his 5,477 passing yards in 2013.
The Ravens have added several new players to their offense during the off-season, including Odell Beckham Jr, Jay Flowers and Nelson Agholar. There will also be Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay returning from injuries, adding to the tight end group which also includes Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
"I'm very eager," Jackson said in May . "I want to throw for like 6,000 yards with the weapons we have.
"I'm not an individual awards type of guy, or stat watcher. (But) we've got explosive guys. Like coach said with the addition of Zay, OBJ, we've got Bateman going to be 100%. Can't forget about my boy Mark, Likely. I just can't wait to get rolling."
