The Los Angeles Rams will not be adding All-Pro defensive back Tyrann Mathieu to their secondary, despite Jalen Ramsey’s best recruiting efforts over the weekend.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mathieu is expected to sign with the New Orleans Saints. A deal should be finalized in the next few days, which will make it official for the top free agent left on the market.
The #Saints are making a key post-draft addition, as they’re expected to sign All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu, sources say. A long-awaited signing that should be finalized in the coming days, the Honey Badger lands in a perfect spot.

The Rams were viewed as a potential suitor for Mathieu, given their needs in the secondary at cornerback and safety. Last month, Rapoport wondered whether the Rams would get in the mix, since they’ve become a free-agent destination in recent years.
Mathieu picking the Saints shouldn’t come as any surprise. He’s from New Orleans and played at LSU, so it’s a logical landing spot.
The Rams probably knew they weren’t going to land Mathieu, too, after they drafted four defensive backs and traded for Troy Hill over the weekend.
