The speculation is over: Tyrann Mathieu will wear No. 32 for the New Orleans Saints during the 2022 season, sticking with the same jersey number he’s used in previous stops with the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, and Arizona Cardinals. So fans can feel free to order his jersey for themselves after crashing the NFL’s website when preorders became available earlier this year.
Whether this would be the end result was the subject of some fierce debate, spurred by Mathieu’s own public thoughts on which jersey he’d like to wear. At one point, he mused about going with No. 5, representing his grandmother’s Fifth Ward community (and it’s the reason he’s always chosen No. 32, because you get five when you add three and two together, see?).
But that number ended up in Mark Ingram’s hands, and Mathieu will remain in No. 32 after using it throughout summer workouts and the start of Saints training camp. It’s served him well so far. Let’s see if he can make the Pro Bowl for a fifth time in it playing in front of his hometown.
