A strengthening typhoon churning in the western Pacific Ocean is barrelling toward the Philippines before it takes aim at Taiwan, Hong Kong and parts of southern China.
As of Monday night, local time, Typhoon Doksuri, known as Egay in the Philippines, was the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. There might be a narrow window when the storm could intensify into a super typhoon, the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane, Tuesday or Tuesday night, local time. However, AccuWeather forecasters warn it may fall just short of this status.
