Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has claimed he has not come to the club to become the next Kalvin Phillips. Adams’ arrival at Leeds was confirmed just days after Phillips’ completed his switch to the Premier League champions.
Given the close proximity of the two deals, many have viewed Adams as a direct replacement for Phillips with both particularly strong in the defensive aspect of the game. However, Leeds have looked to fill the void left by Phillips with multiple players.
Marc Roca has also joined from Bayern Munich and his ability to dictate play from deep is also something that had to be replaced with Phillips’ exit. Leeds’ two new midfield signings have already shown signs of developing a strong partnership in pre-season so far, suggesting that the Whites will be able to cope with the loss of one of their star men.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Adams was quizzed on whether he feels he has come in as Phillips’ replacement at Leeds. The USMNT captain dismissed those claims, though, insisting he is a completely different player to Phillips and that he is only here to be himself.
He said: “Kalvin Phillips is an unbelievable player, what he’s done for Leeds speaks for itself. But I didn’t come in to be Kalvin Phillips I came in to be Tyler Adams and I’m a completely different player to Kalvin Phillips. He deserves that move to Manchester City but I’m just here to be myself.”
