A special area is being created in Twynholm to help people struggling to heat their homes this winter.
A warm space will open at The Star Hotel tomorrow, providing a place for people worried about rocketing energy bills.
And they don’t need to buy anything at the bar, now being run by Twynholm Community Pub with support from owner Suzie Thorpe.
She said: “Working in partnership with them, we’ve decided to open the lounge and offer it as a warm space over the winter months.
“People can come in, sit and have a blether or bring their paper.
“It’s a community space people can use. At the moment it’ll be just when the bar is open at weekends but we’re hoping we can source some funding or sponsorship to open it up a little bit more as well.
“Although it is in Twynholm, it’s open to anyone from anywhere to use.”
The space and the pub will be open from 5pm to 11.30pm on Fridays, 12noon to 11.30pm on Saturdays and from 12noon to 9.30pm on Sundays.
Everyone is welcome to go along with tea and coffee on offer.
Volunteers set up Twynholm Community Pub to take on the running of The Star last month to ensure the village still had a bar.
The move came after the planned sale fell through at the last minute.
Suzie, who lives in Dunscore, said: “It’s going grand. We have a good team of volunteers although we can always have more.
