A Twynholm pub is giving people the chance to “pay what they can” for a Sunday roast this weekend.
The Star Hotel is inviting people to pay as little or as much as they can afford for their dinner.
People will be asked to put in an envelop which won’t be opened until the end of the day – ensuring no one will be any the wiser as to how much they have paid.
Owner Suzanne Thorpe said: “With everything that’s going on with the cost of living increases, energy prices and people just being fed up, we thought we’d give it a try for a couple of months just to see how it goes.
“It’ll be on the last Sunday of the month and we’re hoping we can get some funding through the mental health communities fund later in the year. I would say some people will pay more than others. We wanted to do it in a way so people didn’t know who paid what.
“People don’t like getting something for nothing so we thought if they just put in an envelope they can pay what they can afford while still being able to bring the family out for a roast dinner
“If you’ve got a family it can be quite expensive to go out for dinner these days so it gives people the option to treat themselves and get out of the house.”
