RAIPUR: Two women cadres were killed in encounter with security personnel in Dantewada district of Bastar region in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
In a joint operation carried out by security forces of Sukma and Dantewada districts, a face off took place in forests near Gorli-Muthli villages in Kateklayan region. Bodies of the two Maoists were recovered with one country made gun and two 12 bore rifles.
Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj told TOI, “A search operation was launched based on specific information about presence of CPI Maoist cadres of Pedaras LOS and Katekalyan Area Committee formations in the jungles of Jiyakortha, Gorli, Mutheliand Danikortha area. The operation was carried out on Tuesday in the early hours and joint teams were formed comprising of Dantewada District Reserve Guards and Sukma District Reserve Guards with CRPF’s 230 battalion and Chhattisgarh Armed Force. It was around 11.30 am an exchange of fire took place between Maoists and security forces in Katekalyan region".
IG said that after the guns fell silent, two bodies of women cadres were recovered from the spot and prima facie it was found that one was Pedaras LOS commander Manjula Punem and the other was Muchaki Gangi divisional committee protection team member.
He said that weapons were also seized from the spot and there was no casualty reported from security personnel’s end.
Earlier on Monday, an ITBP official was killed and two jawans were injured in separate IED blasts in Narayanpur district.
