A 16-year-old boy in India had a painless swelling on his left upper eyelid. Then two hard, white points pushed through the skin between his eyelid and eyebrow. A scan revealed the source: a canine tooth growing inside the top of his eye socket.
Ophthalmologists at Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai described the case in the journal Ophthalmology, under the title "Ectopic Canine Tooth in the Superior Orbit." The report, by Meghana Tanwar, Vedant Sharma and Usha Kim, was published online in January and appeared in the journal's June issue. It drew wide attention this month after Tanwar described the case to Live Science.
