Pennsylvania health officials confirmed on Tuesday that two unvaccinated Lancaster County residents have died from measles complications, the first measles deaths recorded in the commonwealth in 35 years and the first confirmed anywhere in the United States this year.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced the two deaths alongside Governor Josh Shapiro and Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen. Officials declined to release ages, sex, or dates of death, citing patient privacy. Both people lived in Lancaster County, the center of an outbreak that has pushed Pennsylvania to 393 confirmed cases across 28 counties this year.
