Two Ukrainian men were tragically stabbed to death in southern Germany, as reported by police on Sunday. The victims, aged 23 and 36, resided in the southern German county of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and were fatally attacked on the premises of a shopping center in the village of Murnau in Upper Bavaria. Following the incident on Saturday evening, a 57-year-old Russian man was apprehended by authorities as a potential suspect in the killings.
The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been disclosed in accordance with German privacy regulations. The motive behind the brutal murders remains unknown at this time, with authorities indicating that it is unclear whether the three individuals were acquainted with each other.
Germany has seen an influx of over 1 million Ukrainian refugees since Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The country is also home to a substantial Russian immigrant community, along with 2.5 million Russians of German descent who predominantly migrated to Germany following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
