Two top female athletes fail dope test; dropped from Asian Championships-bound squad

NEW DELHI: A day prior to the beginning of the Asian athletics championships in Bangkok, India’s top two female athletes have been handed provisional suspensions by the National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) for failing the drug test.

Tamil Nadu’s Archana Suseendran and Haryana’s Anjali Devi were tested in-competition by the Nada’s dope control officers (DCOs) and their urine samples returned positive for banned substances. Both have been dropped from the country’s contingent for the Asian championships, scheduled to begin from July 12. The two didn’t travel with the first batch of the squad, which left on Saturday night.
