Koh Kradan in Trang province and Bileh Beach on Koh Hong in Krabi received the highest five-star rating for 2025 under the "Beach Star" environmental assessment programme.
The Beach Star project, launched in 2002, evaluates and improves the environmental quality of tourist beaches nationwide, particularly those with strong potential to be further developed and promoted.
For 2025, the Pollution Control Department assessed 20 tourist beaches based on five criteria: the beach's physical characteristics, pollution, natural resources, environmental management, and tourism management.
The results showed that 10 beaches achieved environmental quality ratings ranging from very good to excellent, or 4.5 to five stars. The department said these beaches demonstrated an outstanding environmental quality and could serve as models for sustainable beach management in Thailand.
Eight beaches were awarded 4.5 stars, classified as "very good". They are Maya Bay, Krabi; Khao Kalok Beach, Prachuap Khiri Khan; Chao Mai Beach, Trang; Laem Son Beach, Koh Adang, Satun; Koh Mai Phai Beach, Krabi; Laem Tanot Beach, Krabi; Sam Phraya Beach, Prachuap Khiri Khan; and Yong Ling Beach, Trang.
