- Two teenagers, Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, have been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and providing material support to ISIS, among other charges, after an attack in New York City.
- It comes after two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were ignited outside Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral residence, Gracie Mansion, during a protest led by an anti-Muslim activist, who faced off with a larger counter demonstration Saturday. Mamdani nor first lady Rama Duwaji were inside Gracie Mansion at the time of the attack.
- Federal prosecutors allege the teenagers were inspired by the Islamic State, with Balat reportedly stating he wanted an attack "even bigger" than the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
- One of the devices contained triacetone triperoxide, a highly volatile homemade explosive, which extinguished itself as it rolled toward police officers, while the second device failed to ignite.
- Kayumi allegedly shouted that he was inspired by ISIS while being arrested and both teens referred to ISIS in recorded post-arrest statements, according to court documents. The suspects were in court Monday after being arrested and indicted.
