Two taken to hospital after crash on the A1(M) in County Durham

Two people have been taken to hospital following a two-car crash on the A1(M) in County Durham on Monday afternoon.

The pair were taken to the University Hospital of North Durham by paramedics, though nothing further is yet known about their condition. The police, fire brigade and ambulance all attended the incident, which took place between junctions 61 and 62 - near to Carrville.

The carriageway was closed for several hours, but has since reopened - though long delays were expected to continue. Pictures from the scene showed a black car on its roof in the verge alongside the motorway and and a white car with significant damage to its front.
