Two taken to hospital after air ambulance lands at Wallasey Tunnel

Two people were taken to hospital after a crash closed the Wallasey Tunnel.

Emergency services were called to the Kingsway Tunnel at around 1.20pm on Monday, March 14, following a three car crash. The tunnel was closed to traffic travelling from Wallasey towards Liverpool as people were asked to find an alternative route.

Photos taken at the scene showed an air ambulance landing and a large emergency service presence outside the tunnel. A spokesperson for North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: “North West Air Ambulance Charity were called to an Road Traffic Collision (RTC) near the Kingsway Tunnel at approximately 1.20pm on Monday 14 March.”

Merseyside Police confirmed the crash involved three cars and that the incident was being dealt with by Tunnel Police.

A police spokesperson said: "At around 1.20pm today (Monday 14 March) emergency services were called to a report of collision involving three cars in Kingsway Tunnel, Seacombe. The Tunnel was closed at around 1.40pm."

In an update today, the North West Ambulance Service said three people were treated at the scene following the crash, with two taken to hospital. An ambulance spokesperson said they were not seriously injured.

Mersey Travel said the tunnel reopened at around 2.38pm on Monday.
