TWO Scottish neighbourhoods have made Time Out’s list of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.
Each year, Time Out asks its international audience to nominate areas of cities which have the best mix of culture, affordable and great food and drink, street life, nightlife and community.
In Scotland, Leith made the list at number 16 as did Glasgow’s west end which came in at number 20.
The Edinburgh neighbourhood was singled out for its food scene as well as its “many small-batch breweries”.
Glasgow’s west end meanwhile made the list as a result of its many museums including Kelvingrove Art Gallery as well as the food and drink it has to offer.
More than 12,000 people were asked about the coolest neighbourhoods in their city with the selection then narrowed down with the insight and expertise of Time Out’s global network of editors and experts.
Travel editor at Time Out Grace Beard said: “What stands out with this year’s Time Out coolest neighbourhoods is that, while most of them have seen transformation over recent years, they remain resolutely local at heart.
“Exciting new openings across culture, food and drink are bringing in new crowds, but neighbourhood stalwarts – from old pubs to family greengrocers – keep it real.
“And they’re fun. These are places where the city comes to play, be it an all-night party, a spot of urban fishing or a night time bike ride.
“After a few tumultuous years, it’s heartening to see communities come together to hang out, support local businesses and have fun.”
