Scots searching for a staycation have been pointed in the direction of Dundee and Queensferry by a new list which names the 'unsung corners' of Britain.
With the festive period and New Year behind us, the January blues might be settling in just now. Fortunately, a visit to either town could cure your itchy feet, according to a roundup by The Telegraph.
The two Scottish entries on the list highlighted Dundee as a creative hub and its proximity to 'genuinely wild' landscape. As for Queensferry, the town was lauded for its sights for its bridge views and history along with one 'weird' local event.
Already known as the home of the only V&A museum outside London, Dundee was named as a 'hidden pocket' of creativity. Art lovers have their pick of destinations in the city, with the Victorian McManus Galleries and the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre to peruse as well.
The newspaper also spotlighted the Maritime Trail, the HMS Unicorn and Verdant Works, a restored mill that now tells the story of Dundee's industrial textile roots.
On another note, the city's accessibility to 'genuinely wild' landscapes was highlighted. Tentsmuir Forest is about a half hour's drive away whilst Angus Glens also offers a splendid getaway.
Queensferry featured as the second Scottish town on the list. Set just half an hour from Edinburgh, its unique views of the Forth Bridge, the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing were noted.
Nearby stately home Hopetoun House was also named as a 'tranquil' sight with 'majestic' gardens.
Military buffs were called to the town for its historical ties. Queensferry was the site of German bombings and also where the Royal Navy set off for the Battle of Jutland.
A unique facet of the town was spotlight for a 'weirder' attraction. Burryman is a ceremony held in the town in which a local is covered in burrs and flowers.
