Two people taken to hospital after car crashes into front of Essex pub

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after a car crashed into a pub in Essex.

Emergency services were called to The Strangers pub in Bradfield, near Manningtree, at roughly 7.30am on Thursday following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Two ambulances, four ambulance officer vehicles and four Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles attended the scene, as well as police.

The Strangers is currently closed for renovation and has since become home to a caravan site, according to the Essex County Daily Gazette.

The man driving the car is believed to have had a medical episode behind the wheel, the BBC reported.

Pictures shared by the broadcaster show the front of the car completely smashed, with a large wall at the front of the pub also significantly damaged.

Essex Police said the injuries sustained by the man and woman, both in their fifties, are not considered to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “One man and one woman were transported to Colchester General Hospital, and hazardous area response team crews stayed on scene to support fire and rescue colleagues making the building safe.
