Two people have died and three are in a serious condition in hospital after an early morning crash. Police were called to a single-vehicle crash on the A548 in Bagillt, Flintshire, at about 2.30am on Friday (April 22).
A statement from North Wales Police said: "Following a single vehicle RTC on the A548 at Bagillt in the early hours, two people have sadly died and three others are in a serious condition." The road remained closed for most of the morning as police carried out investigation work at the scene.
Five ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were sent to the scene and the Wales Air Ambulance landed nearby around 3.15am. The Welsh Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at around 2.40am following reports of a road traffic accident.
A spokeswoman said: "We responded with two rapid response vehicles and five emergency ambulances. We were supported by the a crew from the Wales Air Ambulance. We have no further details at this stage." Police remain at the scene on Friday morning as investigations into the fatal crash continue.
LyonsDen Fitness gym, which is based near the crash site, said it would be closed until further notice. A statement said: "Major traffic incident with structural damage to building. Honestly can’t say any more than this at the moment. With the police, will keep you all updated as I know more re opening back up."
The road re-opened just before 1pm, and police said that the families of the people involved were being supported by trained officers.
A statement said: "Thank you to local residents and motorists for your patience and support. Family Liaison Officers are supporting relatives, and our thoughts are with the families of all involved at this sad time."
