Two people have died and a truck driver is assisting police with their inquiries following a collision between a car and a truck in north-west Victoria.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after emergency services were called to the Wimmera Highway between Jung and Murtoa just before 11am.
The male driver and female passenger of the car, who are yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The 24-year-old male driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
He was arrested and is assisting police after initially being taken to hospital.
The highway was closed in both directions near the collision site across Tuesday, but has since reopened.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dashcam/CCTV footage or further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
"Investigators are particularly interested in any witnesses, or footage that captured grass being cut on side of the highway between 10 and 11am, and anyone with dash-cam footage on the Wimmera Highway in the vicinity of the Delahuntys Road intersection around 10 and 11am," police said in a statement.
There have now been 62 lives lost on Victorian roads in 2023, more than one a day.
It is also the third road death in the Wimmera in less than a week, after a South Australian man died when the vehicle he was driving veered off the Western Highway at Lillimur on February 22.
