Two people have died and another woman is fighting for her life after a horror crash on the A9 yesterday. The fatal incident took place shortly before 5pm on Wednesday on the road at Ralia, by Newtonmore, at its junction with the B9150.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the scene following reports of a smash involving a car and a lorry.
Two passengers, a 75-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Their family has been informed.
The driver of the car, a 46-year-old woman, is in hospital in a critical condition. The driver of the lorry, a 59-year-old man, was uninjured.
The road was initially locked down while officers carried out enquiries into the incident, with traffic grounding to a halt and motorists urged to avoid the area. It reopened around eight hours later.
Cops now want to hear from anyone who may have any information on the collision. Sergeant Alasdair Mackay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the crash or who has any dashcam footage to get in touch with officers.
“Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2516 of 10 August, 2022.”
