Two pensioners have died following a horror late night crash on a Scots road.
Emergency services raced to Mill Street at the junction with Kings Park Avenue in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, after the crash involving a Mercedes C220 and a Ford Mondeo happened at around 11.50pm on Friday November 18.
Ambulance crews attended but the 73-year-old male passenger of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene. The 80-year-old male driver was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, but he tragically died a short time later.
The 34-year-old male driver of the Ford Mondeo, who was not injured, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The road was quickly closed to allow investigation work to be carried out and recovery arranged. It remains closed at this time.
Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who died as a result of this incident.
"Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash and who may have witnessed it or have dash cam footage to contact us.”
