Ballotpedia tracked two new state-level candidates in Kentucky between Nov. 27-Dec. 3. This was two more candidates than the prior week.
One of those candidates is a Democrat and one is a Republican. Both candidates are running for state legislature in 2024.
As of this writing, Ballotpedia identified campaign materials for one of the two candidates. Details are below:
- Craig Richardson (R) is running for Kentucky State Senate District 3. Richardson said, “My top priority is to defend individual rights of liberty, freedom of religion, and the second amendment. Our constitution guarantees these rights to every citizen, and it is our responsibility to uphold and protect them. As a pro-life Christian, I strongly believe that every life matters and we need to focus on supporting mothers and bolstering the foster care and adoption process. In Kentucky, there are currently more than 8,000 children in foster care waiting for a permanent home, and we must do everything we can to ensure they find loving families.”
Since the beginning of the year, Ballotpedia has identified 50 candidates for state-level office in Kentucky. Three hundred and two candidates ran for state-level office in Kentucky in 2022, while 287 ran in 2020. In 2022, 96 were Democratic, while 174 were Republican. In 2020, 114 were Democratic and 142 were Republican. Nationally, Ballotpedia has tracked 680 Democrats and 829 Republicans running for state-level office in 2023, and 388 Democrats and 537 Republicans running in 2024.
