Two more women accuse footy great of child sexual abuse

Two more alleged sexual assault victims have come forward to give evidence against legendary Australian Rules player Barry Cable.

Three women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have already told a Perth civil trial the 79-year-old sexually abused them when they were children.

The two new witnesses, both women, were also allegedly abused by the triple Sandover Medal winner in the 1980s in Victoria.

The famous rover, who is being sued for damages by the first woman to testify against him, denies the claims and is not facing criminal charges.

It will bring to five the number of children the father-of-two is accused of sexually assaulting while he was playing and coaching top-level football.

"These lay witnesses will give evidence in relation to their direct experience of having been sexually assaulted by the defendant," lawyer Tim Hammond told the Western Australia District Court on Tuesday.

The two new witnesses are scheduled to give evidence on Wednesday.

The woman who launched the legal case told the court Cable started sexually abusing her when she was about 12 or 13-years-old in the late 1960s.

It allegedly continued through her teens, escalating from sexualised conversations and unwanted touching to "degrading" sexual violence and forceful intercourse.

The court has been told Cable, who has not attended the hearings, allegedly sexually assaulted the woman multiple times, including at the Perth Football Club in 1971, where he was captain and coach.

He also allegedly "relentlessly" assaulted her in his garden shed, his car, at a public swimming pool and in his family home while his wife and children slept.

The woman claims the abuse also continued when she became an adult and got married, but Cable claims the pair had a consensual relationship.

She denies this and gave confronting evidence about the alleged emotional and physical abuse.

The second woman to accuse Cable said the former North Melbourne player and coach inappropriately touched her in the 1980s and '90s when she was aged between eight and 14.

The third woman who has given evidence against Cable alleged he tried to have sex with her in a spa in the 1980s when she was about 11.

"He got me to sit on his knee and I do remember feeling the erection on my backside," she told the Perth court on Monday.

Cable then allegedly pulled down her bathers.

"I got off his lap because it was really uncomfortable," she said.

She did not report the incident to her parents or police because of Cable's stardom.

"He was so famous my father had stars in his eyes about him. He said all of Australia loved him," she said.

Narrogin-born Cable was elevated to legend status in the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and is one of football's most decorated players.
