Israeli authorities reported that two individuals were killed on Tuesday evening after dozens of projectiles were fired from Lebanon at the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. A woman and a man lost their lives when a projectile struck their vehicle directly, according to Israeli police.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the incident, stating that several projectiles were identified falling in the area following sirens in the Golan Heights. Magen David Adom paramedics described the scene as challenging, with an unconscious man and woman critically injured in a vehicle that suffered a direct hit.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing dozens of Katyusha rockets on the Golan Heights in response to an alleged Israeli attack in Syria targeting a Hezbollah key member earlier that day. The targeted individual, Yasser Nemr Qranbish, was reportedly killed in an attack west of Damascus, though specific details were not provided by the group.
In retaliation, the Israeli Air Force conducted strikes on Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure in Qabrikha, the area from which the projectiles were launched, as well as military structures in Kfarkela in southern Lebanon.
Cross-border fire between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah has been increasing in frequency since the conflict in Gaza began, raising concerns of a potential escalation into a larger conflict.
