Two girls, aged 15 and 18, who were seriously injured after a speeding unidentified vehicle hit the bike they were riding pillion at Jannaram in Mancherial district on Monday night, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karimnagar on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as K. Rahitya, 15, an SSC student, and V. Sathvika, 18, a NEET aspirant, both natives of Ponakal village of Mancherial district.
They were returning home after taking part in Bathukamma festivities at Jannaram when tragedy struck. They were riding pillion on the bike driven by Rahitya’s father Ganganna when the vehicle, suspected to be a car, coming from the opposite direction hit their two-wheeler and sped away.
Ganganna suffered multiple injuries in the accident. Police said that a case has been registered and efforts are on to trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case and arrest its driver.
