Two Edinburgh luxury diners were named among UK's best spots for an afternoon tea

Two Edinburgh high-class restaurants were named amongst the best places for afternoon tea outside of London.

Traditional afternoon tea treat is a well known British custom, with the majority of cafes and restaurants having it on offer.

Interestingly, in the past year, there has been a near four-fold increase in Google searches for "afternoon tea near me", showing that the classic pastime is very much alive and prospers.

Determined to find out where one can get the best afternoon tea experience, Magnet, a kitchen design and retail expert, came up with the Great British Tea Index, in which the two Edinburgh venues took their rightful top places.

Ranking second and third, The Dome and The Witchery by the Castle are undoubtedly two of the capital's most luxurious dining spots. They are now being glorified for their afternoon tea experience.

Edinburgh New Town's high-class restaurant The Dome has an astonishing number of 4,316 five-star reviews and offers afternoon tea for £22 per person. Being a genuinely iconic landmark, the building itself, as well as the gorgeous interior, add up to the fantastic experience one will have when coming in for an afternoon tea treat.

The venue has a special Georgian tea room where guests can enjoy their afternoon tea in a chic environment, feeling like true royal guests.

Located on the Royal Mile just outside the Edinburgh Castle, The Witchery will make a perfect spot for anyone visiting the capital or on a day out at the heritage heart of the vibrant city.

What is probably the most atmospheric restaurant in the city, The Witchery offers afternoon tea for £35 per person and serves it enhanced with its uniques medieval - and slightly haunting - vibe.

While one might find the prices at those two places somewhat off-putting, it is sure that they deserve their top spots in the list of the best afternoon tea places - and the experience is worth the try.
