Two Doors Down: 'Perfect' Scottish comedy set to return as fans 'delighted'

A TV comedy dubbed the 'Scottish Royale Family' has shared the official date on which its much-anticipated fifth series will begin airing.

Two Doors Down, which began with a pilot in 2013 before the first two series were shown in 2016, will return to our screens this month after filming for the fifth season was canned during Covid.

Show creator Simon Carlyle shared the news on Twitter this week and it's clear fans have missed the show.

The comedy centres around couple Beth and Eric and their insufferable neighbours.

Set in the fictional Scottish suburban street of Latimer Crescent, the new six-part series features Arabella Weir as Beth and Alex Norton as Eric, the long-suffering Bairds whose home is often at the heart of the comedy.

It also stars Elaine C Smith as Christine, Doon Mackichan as Cathy, Jonathan Watson as her husband Colin, Jamie Quinn as the Bairds’ son Ian and Kieran Hodgson returning as his boyfriend Gordon.

Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely and Joy McAvoy are also back as new neighbours Alan and Michelle, settling in to their freshly decorated house.

It has received multiple awards including the Best Comedy award at the 2017 Royal Television Society Scotland Awards and Elaine C. Smith won Best Actress at the BAFTA Scotland Awards in 2018.

The news that the popular sitcom is set to returns has had fans flocking to Twitter to share their delight.

"Canny wait to have you guys back" wrote one, while another added "HOORAH!!!! We've missed you."

"Wonderful ... viewing this week has been series 1 to 4 for the millionth time. You always see something new in it. Perfect comedy. I'm sure we all channel our inner Christine at times!" added a fan.

Meanwhile, one viewer wrote: "Brilliant ! Love love love this programme. What a talented cast."

All six episodes of series five will start airing from July 12 on BBC2 at 10pm.
