A couple who died in a house fire in southeast Queensland had no domestic violence history but police say their relationship will form an integral part of the death probe.
Police Detective Acting Inspector Heath McQueen says two bodies, believed to be a man and female, aged 73 and 68, were found in the charred remains of the home at Collingwood Park, east of Ipswich, on Sunday morning.
"It's a shocking discovery and we're working with the immediate family to provide them with support," he told reporters.
The fire took hold quickly and when emergency services were first called to the home about 1am it was well alight with smoke billowing from the roof.
Det Insp McQueen said the couple were found in the lower level of the home but their cause of death is unclear.
The home has been so extensively damaged, he said, that days of forensic examination will be needed.
"Obviously... several days of forensic examination will be required as well as autopsies to determine cause of death," he said.
Detectives believe there was no "third party involvement" in the fire, but are doorknocking in the area and reviewing CCTV footage from Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Det Insp McQueen also said the couple had no known history of domestic violence, but officers are probing their relationship.
"The antecedents of the relationship between the couple will form an integral part of our investigation," he added.
