A helicopter pilot and passenger have died after the aircraft they were flying in crashed in the Snowy Mountains in NSW.
Emergency responders located the wreckage in the sparsely populated Kiandra Flats just before midnight on Monday, NSW Police said.
The pilot and the passenger died at the scene and their identities have not yet been confirmed.
A request was sent to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Joint Rescue Coordinator Centre after the helicopter was last tracked in the area.
It was later located by rescuers about 200 metres east of the Snowy Mountains Highway.
A crime scene has been established by Riverina Police which will be examined by specialist officers.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has also been informed of the crash and has begun its own investigation.
It's the second fatal helicopter crash in Australia in less than a week.
A pilot and four passengers died on Thursday when their helicopter came down at Mt Disappointment north of Melbourne in Victoria.
Police and the ATSB are expected to provide further details on Tuesday.
