PUNE: In yet another case of attempted good smuggling in less a month, the Pune customs authorities, on July 30, caught two Chennai based men who were concealing gold in both paste and solid form and were trying to smuggle it out.
Providing information about the same on Friday, customs authorities said that one of the men had created a special cavity in his underwear to conceal the gold paste.
"These two people had come to Pune on a flight from Singapore to Pune on a Vistara flight. With their activities looking suspicious, the men, based on profiling, were stopped and searched. During the search, gold paste and two gold chains weighing a total of 202 grams and costing Rs. 12.35 lakh were recovered from them. One of them had created a special cavity in his underwear to conceal the gold paste," a customs official told TOI.
Before this, on July 2, the customs authorities had arrested a Malad based woman who was carrying good paste worth Rs. 20.3 lakhs in form of capsules in a case of rectal concealment. The suspicious activities of the woman, who had returned from Dubai, compelled the customs to search her during which the smuggling attempt came to fore.
"This is the third case of attempted gold smuggling from the airport this year. The first case had happened on April 10 in which another woman, was caught carrying gold in paste form in another case of rectal concealment," another official said.
