Police are appealing for information after two cars in Faifley, Clydebank were deliberately set on fire.

The incidents both happened in the early hours of January 2, with the first report of a Ford Mondeo on fire in a driveway in Knowes View reaching police at 4.45am.

The second was received an hour later, at 5.45am, when a Skoda parked on Craigpark Street was set alight.

Police believe the two incidents are linked and are looking to trace the driver of a dark-coloured Audi who was seen near both incidents around the time each fire was set.

Luckily no injuries have been reported as a result of either blaze.

Anyone in the area at the time of each incident is urged to check any CCTV or dashcam footage and contact Police Scotland with any information which may assist with their investigation.

Detective Constable Jack Muir said: “Luckily no one was injured during these incidents, however the consequences could have been very serious.

“We believe that these two incidents may be linked and we are continuing our enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding them. We are working to identify the driver of a dark-coloured Audi who was seen near both addresses around the time the fires were set.

"I would ask anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or who has information that may assist our investigation to contact us. We are also keen to gather any dash-cam or personal footage from these areas around the times stated.”

Anyone with information should contact 101 with reference number 0459 of 2 January. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
