Two Belfast restaurants ranked in UK's Burger Bucket List

Two popular Belfast restaurants have been named on the UK's Burger Bucket List. Bunsen Burger and Tribal Burger have placed in a list of the top 40 burger joints that you must try across NI, England, Scotland and Wales.

Ranked by StagWeb, a website to help plan Stag Dos and weekends, set out on the hunt to unearth the best burgers in the UK with three NI spots featuring on their top picks. Pyke N Pommes in Derry also made the list.

Steve Roddy, StagWeb’s Director of Operations, said: “We’re on the hunt to unearth the best burgers in the UK to help advise our stags – and the UK as a whole – where to get the best bite on the market. From Cornwall to Inverness, Belfast to Brighton, we’ve handpicked some of our favourites for people to go out and try.

"Whilst it’s all subjective, we’re pretty happy with our Top 40, but if anyone has any other nominations to throw into the mix, we’re all ears."

Here is what they had to say about each location:

Bunsen

(Bunsen)

StagWeb said: "This place has clearly done its research on how to make the perfect burger. After extensive testing, they’ve nailed down every element that makes up a classic American-style hamburger. From the bun to the meat to the crispy lettuce leaf, it’s all a well-thought-out process that has clearly paid off!

"These stacks are extremely unstable due to ingredient overload. The beef patties are almost unrecognisable once that cheese starts melting, so take caution and enjoy every bite. This burger is taking the standard comfort food to new levels of WOW."

Tribal Burger

(Tribal Burger/ Facebook)

They said: "Forget fine dining, we’re introducing Tribal Burger who are the fun dining experts. Head Chef Paul’s mission is to take high-end burgers to the masses. We’re talking stunning flavours, great cuts of beef and stacked ingredients, all at affordable prices. Paul, you are truly a man of the people.

"This is how you do burgers! Bringing you the homemade meaty goodness (as well as some lavish burger sauce) with all of the best accompaniments to make for a top burger-eating experience. This is the sort of Tribal tattoo we’d get."

Paul Catterson, co-owner of Tribal Burger, told Belfast Live that their success as one of the city's top burger joints is down to the staff and team behind making each of their products.

"The food scene in Northern Ireland is certainly a match for anything in England and Scotland and it's brilliant to be in among it," Paul said. "Even to be mentioned is great so we are all very happy."

"It is great for the staff because it has been a hard two or three years and our staff work very hard and are really good - this is a recognition of them because if it wasn't for their work, the restaurant wouldn't exist."

He continued: "We try to keep everything simple but everything we do, we make on-site every day. There is skill involved in doing it and I think people can recognise that when they come in.

"We are a local brand which is family owned and employs local people - all our suppliers are also local too. We try to feed as much back into the local economy as possible and I think that makes us a good neighbourhood restaurant.

"We hope people will continue to enjoy Tribal Burger and that's all we can ask."
