Twitter users have reported being unable to use the platform across the UK with thousands said to be affected.
The Down Detector website suggests issues were first reported after 1pm. Most reported problems are to do with accessing the Twitter app and website accounting for 48% and 49% of reported issues respectively.
Over 30,000 reports have been made on the site in the last hour, with users given an error message when they log on to Twitter. The social media site itself has not confirmed that there is an outage.
It is not yet known what has caused the outage or when it will be fixed. One user on Down Detector complained about error messages sent by the page, adding: "'Something went wrong. Try reloading.' Yeah, I’ve done that at least 50 times now."
Other commenters suggested that Tesla CEO Elon Musk - who is currently engaged in legal action against Twitter after pulling out of a £37 billion deal to buy the social media giant - was behind the outage. One commenter said: "Has Musk killed Twitter?," while another remarked: "Elon pulled the Twitter plug out".
