Twitter down as users report 'serious issues' with social media platform

Twitter appeared to go 'down' early on Thursday afternoon, with thousands of users reporting 'serious issues' with the globally famous social media platform.

Around 1pm UK time those searching for trends or looking at accounts on Twitter were greeted with a 'Tweets aren't loading right now' error message or 'Something went wrong. Try again."

The problem was confirmed by Down Detector, which reported that the majority of problems are to do with accessing the Twitter app and website accounting for 48% and 49% of reported issues respectively.

As so often happens when one platform goes down, people flocked to other sites to share their frustrations at the issues with Twitter, with disgruntled users taking to Facebook to warn others of the problems.

As well as not being able to issue their Twitter timelines, users also came up against problems when trying to post on TweetDeck, the facility which allows you to schedule posts to be published at a later date or time.

After over half an hour of not being able to access anything on their Twitter accounts, users reported that things went back to normal again just before 1.40pm.
