Several land and air crews are battling a bushfire in far north Queensland as a watch and act alert remains in place.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said 20 crews are on scene near Mutchilba, southwest of Cairns, with a "fast-moving fire burning between Algoma Road and Mutchilba Road".

QFES said 11 rural and six urban fire services are battling the blaze, with Queensland Police also assisting.

Water bombing aircraft has been deployed douse the bushfire that is travelling towards Mutchilba Road.

Warnings are in place for properties between Mareeba Dimbulah Road, Lemonside Road and Fumar Road, including Algoma Road and Mutchilba Road.

"Firefighters are working to control the fire. You should not expect a firefighter at your door. Firefighting aircraft are helping ground crews," a QFES alert on Tuesday said.
