Striking With Pride: United at the Coalface

9pm, Sky Documentaries

Ten years after the film Pride, about the mid-80s alliance between LGBTQ+ activists and striking Welsh miners, this moving documentary tells the real story behind it – and is every bit as remarkable and uplifting. Two beleaguered communities find comfort in mutual support and compassion and, via the subsequent adoption of gay rights into official Labour party policy, change the course of history. Phil Harrison

Doctor Who

6.50pm, BBC One

After last week’s Ruby-focused chiller, the reinvigorated Who returns to a timeless sci-fi conceit: the gleaming utopia with dark secrets. In the far-flung colony of Finetime, perky young humans exist in blinkered high-tech bubbles of social media. Can our heroes convince the group chat that unplugging could save them from a slobbery menace? Graeme Virtue

Rebus

9.20pm, BBC One

The Edinburgh gangland saga continues to unfold. Only, as we’re repeatedly told, “there are no gangsters in Edinburgh”. Rebus discovers this mantra isn’t a statement of fact but an expression of omertà, as he pieces together the roots of the vendetta between Christie and Cafferty. PH

Jon Bon Jovi: Reel Stories

9.30pm, BBC Two

Relivin’ on a prayer: if you were daunted by Netflix’s recent four-part documentary, here’s a more digestible version of the Bon Jovi story. Dermot O’Leary screens archive clips for the singer born John Bongiovi Jr, who seems more reflective than his hunky rock god hinterland might suggest. GV

Later … With Jools Holland

10.15pm, BBC Two

This week’s highlight looks likely to be a very rare public outing for Beth Gibbons of Portishead fame, whose first solo album explores more folk-inflected but equally mesmerising atmospheres. There are also appearances from Shaznay Lewis, plus Ghetts and Sampha. PH

This Cultural Life: Juliette Binoche

10.30pm, BBC Four

Over a 40-year career, French actor Juliette Binoche has come to embody European sophistication in the popular imagination, but what are the cultural influences that have shaped her? In conversation with John Wilson, she discusses a 1977 production of Alfred Jarry’s play Ubu Roi, and working with such acclaimed film-makers as Jean-Luc Godard and Krzysztof Kieślowski. Film choice

Bonus Track, 6.35am, 12.10pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

Julia Jackman’s 2006-set teenage romantic comedy has the playful conceit of bedding its scenes in a fictional mixtape playlist from the era. So, Hot Chip’s Boy from School introduces introverted George (Joe Anders), a failing 16-year-old pupil whose sole dream in life is to perform a tune at the end-of-year talent show. Take Me Out and Dry Your Eyes soundtrack his unexpected, tentative relationship with Samuel Small’s new boy Max, the son of a pop star couple. It’s light on jeopardy or lust, but its ordinariness keeps it relatable. Simon Wardell
