US talk show star James Corden dreams of landing a Hollywood role – as the bloated English tyrant Henry VIII.
The fun-loving UK comic, a hit as host of The Late Late Show on CBS in the US, wants to be cast as Henry, famous for his large appetite and six wives.
Corden, 43, who voiced the role of Peter Rabbit in the 2018 film, has won Tony awards for work on Broadway and now yearns to fill the big screen in person.
He chuckled on his show: “I am holding out for the old Henry VIII biopic. I have to be up there at some point when it comes around. I could have the big beard as I have the face for it.”
When it was suggested he could be asked to “gain 40 pounds” for the role, rather than wear a fat suit, Corden beamed: “That is the dream. It would be like ‘Do you know what? I can do that.”
The star, who went to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding, cheekily joked about how the Queen would celebrate her birthday with an “intimate dinner with loved ones followed by two elephant legs of cocaine”.
He then said gossip that the Queen drinks four cocktails a day is “correct”.
Last year Corden, who is one of the faces of Weight Watchers, claimed that his grub grabbing hands are his biggest foes in his battle with weight loss and went on to joke: “The best diet I could do is strap my arms to my body.”
