When the Los Angeles Rams took Tutu Atwell with the 57th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, he chose to wear No. 15. Ahead of his third season, Atwell will change his jersey number from No. 15 to No. 5 in 2023, according to his Instagram account.
When Atwell was drafted by the Rams in 2021, Ramsey had the No. 5 jersey, so Atwell didn’t have an opportunity to wear the number. But with Ramsey traded to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, Atwell is taking the All-Pro cornerback’s former number.
After not recording a single offensive stat for the Rams as a rookie in 2021, Atwell showed flashes in his second season in 2022. The Louisville product hauled in 18 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown, while he also rushed for 34 yards and another score.
Those numbers don’t jump off the page, but the Rams experienced a bevy of quarterback issues last season with Matthew Stafford missing time due to multiple injuries. Even with Puka Nacua’s arrival via the 2023 NFL draft, Atwell hopes to put together his best season in horns with a new jersey number in hand.
