A popular Turkish comedian has gone on trial at an Istanbul court on Monday on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other offences during a stand-up performance in June.
Deniz Göktaş, a 32-year-old comedian known for his dry wit and political satire, was arrested by police on 3 July, a week after releasing a YouTube video of his show that was watched nearly 9 million times.
