‘Turbocharged’ jet stream hurtling at Ireland as Met Eireann forecast horrid Ireland weather impact

A ‘turbo-charged’ jet stream that’s hurtling towards Ireland is set to “fire up” some Atlantic storms.

As it nears Ireland next week, the jet stream is set to have a major impact on our weather as things take a turn for the worse.

Met Eireann says there’s a risk of some “very windy” weather as well as spells of heavy rain.

While there is some uncertainty in the details this far out, one Irish weather expert has named next Thursday and Friday as potential stormy days.

Alan O’Reilly posted long-range weather maps showing the jet stream on his popular Carlow Weather Twitter account, writing: “Jet stream heading towards us later in the coming week and will fire up some storms in the Atlantic. A lot of uncertainty around the details but a risk of spells of wet and windy weather around Thursday and Friday. Keeping an eye.”

It’s thought that tropical air from the south battling with cold air sweeping down from the Arctic will power the jet stream.

A Met Eireann forecaster explained: “Next week, high pressure is expected to build in the Atlantic with low pressure positioned near Ireland bringing a rather unsettled and showery weather regime.

“Very windy conditions are possible at times. Mean air temperatures are forecast to be close to the October average, with some chilly night expected towards the end of the week.

“It is expected to be wetter than normal nationwide, especially in Atlantic coastal counties.”

It comes as a forecaster from Netweather described the jet stream as “turbocharged”.

Nick Finnis told Express: “A turbocharged 200 mph-plus jet streak racing across the Atlantic is helping thrust a rather active and vigorous frontal system southeast, ahead of a rather deep depression swirling around near Iceland over the next few days.”
