Tulsi lake is first water supply lake in Mumbai to overflow

MUMBAI: Tulsi lake started overflowing at 5.45pm on Saturday, BMC said.

Officials said that among the lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai, this is the first lake under BMC in Mumbai to overflow during this monsoon. BMC officials said there was 78.63% water available in seven drinking water supply lakes.

“Out of the seven lakes from which this water is supplied, Tulsi has started overflowing today. It is the third lake that has started to overflow this monsoon. Out of the two lakes under BMC supplying drinking water, this lake became the first to fill and flow during this monsoon. Its maximum storage is 804.60 crore litese (8,046 million litres),” BMC said. Tulsi overflowed on July 16 in 2021.

“The storage capacity of the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai is 1,44,736.3 crore litres (14,47,363 million litres) and as per the count at 6am today, 1,13,809 in all dams.
