TUI, Ryanair, easyJet, BA and Jet2 cancellation policies

With summer upon us and countries dropping or easing their coronavirus travel rules, lots of Brits will be jetting off in the coming months. Many holidaymakers are eager to return to their favourite destinations, including Spain and Turkey, for guaranteed sunshine and a change of scenery.

But many passengers have faced delays and cancellations in recent weeks as the sector struggled with a surge in demand for flights and staff shortages. UK airports have seen long queues, while some travellers have had their flights cancelled altogether.

There are growing concerns over how the industry will cope over the summer and fears that there could be more cancellations and delays. If you have a holiday booked you may be considering your options and thinking about cancelling it yourself to avoid disappointment and further disruption.

TUI

The costs of cancelling a holiday with TUI varies depending on how much time there is before you’re due to travel. If you’re travelling on a TUI flight as part of a package, these are the cancellation charges:

  • 70 days or more before travel: Loss of full deposit
  • 69 - 63 days before travel: 30% of total booking price
  • 62 - 49 days before travel: 50% of total booking price
  • 48 - 29 days before travel: 70% of total booking price
  • 28 - 15 days before travel: 90% of total booking price
  • 14 - 0 days before travel: 100% of total booking price

Cancellation charges are different if you’ve only booked a flight or a hotel, you can find out more here.

Usually tickets for TUI flights only are non-refundable, although under their Covid flexibility policy you can make free-fee changes to your holiday if departing on or before October 31 2022, if you’re unable to travel due to Covid-related reasons.

Ryanair

All Ryanair flights can be changed but they cannot be cancelled. Dates, times and routes or flights can be changed up to two and half hours before the flight departure time, using the My Bookings page in your Ryanair account.

EasyJet

If you cancel your flight more than 24 hours after booking, you will not be refunded any of your fare. You can change your flight by paying the Flight Change Fee plus the fare difference for your new flight.

British Airways

If you made a booking before June 8 2022 for travel to be completed by 30 September 2022, you can change your dates, destination or even cancel if you need to, with no change booking fee - although you could pay a fare different. If you wish to cancel your booking you can claim a voucher to the value of your booking, valid for travel until September 30 2023.

If your booking falls outside of these dates the standard delay, cancellation and refund options apply. You can log onto the Manage My Booking section on the British Airways website to see which options are available to you.

Jet2

You can cancel your flights using the Manage My Booking page but all scheduled Jet2.com flights are non-refundable. You can change the dates of your flight which does have a £35 administration fee and you could be charged any difference in fare. However, you can’t change your departure or destination airport once the booking has been made.
