A TUI flight was diverted back to Newcastle this evening after a member of onboard crew became unwell.
Flight TOM1424 departed from Newcastle International Airport this afternoon en route to Gran Canaria. But the flight was diverted a short time into the flight after a member of the crew became ill.
The flight was landed safely back in Newcastle and overnight accommodation was made available for those who need it. A flight is due to take passengers to their destination tomorrow.

A spokesperson for TUI said: "We'd like to apologise to customers on flight TOM1424 who had to return to Newcastle Airport shortly after take-off today due to a crew member becoming unwell.
"A new flight will take everyone to their holiday destinations tomorrow and in the meantime overnight accommodation is available for those who need it.
"Customers will be contacted directly with details of their new flight and we'd like to thank them for their patience and understanding."
