Scotland's most dangerous con murdered fellow inmate before shaking hands with other prisoners

One of Scotland's most dangerous prisoners is likely never to be freed after he admitted murdering a fellow inmate. James O'Rourke - already a convicted killer - choked to death Dean Ramsey, 30, in what a judge described as a "brutal execution".

The 52 year-old was then clocked shaking hands with other prisoners at HMP Glenochil in Clacks after the attack on January 9 2021. He boasted: "Just because I am old, he thinks I am dafty. Well, it cost him his life."

O'Rourke was today sentenced to a minimum 23 years after he pled guilty to a murder charge at the High Court in Glasgow. He has been behinds bars at various prisons since 1992.

Man charged over 'bomb threats' after holidaymakers evacuated from Scots airport

A man has appeared in court charged with causing a Scottish airport to be evacuated by making bomb threats.

Christopher Williams, 23, appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court today following an incident at Glasgow International Airport yesterday. Williams, of no fixed abode, faces three charges in relation to his alleged conduct and is now banned from entering the airport.

Scots mum thought brain tumour symptoms were hay fever before medics discover golf ball sized mass

A Scots mum initially thought her tumour symptoms were being caused by hay fever before medics discovered a golf-ball sized mass in her brain. Suzanne Davies was given just 12 months to live after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme in 2014 - but has beaten the odds to survive eight more years.

The busy 44-year-old told how she thought she was just tired and suffering from a pollen allergy when she began having issues with her speech and regular headaches. She sought help from a GP who gave her a full check up and agreed that her condition was likely being caused by the allergies or stress.

Flames and smoke billow from serious A9 crash scene as air ambulance requested

Traffic is starting to build on the A9 as emergency crews deal with the incident (Twitter)

An air ambulance has been requested to a serious road crash on one of Scotland's most notorious roads with flames and smoke seen billowing from the scene.

Officers say the incident happened on the A9 in the Highlands at Slochd, just after 11.40am today. Emergency services are at the scene with the road currently closed in both directions, with a 65 mile diversion in place.

DWP urges older people to apply for ‘passport’ benefit even if they only get awarded a penny

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that it received an estimated 10,000 new claims for Pension Credit in one week during a nationwide drive encouraging older people to check eligibility for the ‘gateway’ benefit worth more than £3,300 each year.

The Pension Credit Day of Action on June 15, saw some famous faces and charities get behind the campaign including financial guru, Martin Lewis and former Strictly Come Dancing head judge, Len Goodman. DWP told the Work and Pensions Committee that in a typical week they would normally receive around 3,000 new claims, but as a result of the drive “saw a tripling” of applications.
