Leicester’s seven-furlong Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap looks an ideal opportunity for STAR OF ORION (4.50) to return to the winners’ circle.
After making a winning debut at Newmarket two years ago, the four-year-old then scored again at the same course last July.
That looked the launchpad for more success, especially as he went mighty close in the 19-runner Moet & Chandon International Stakes at Ascot later that month, beaten a short head by Danyah, but from that moment on his form completely tailed off.
Ralph Beckett then added blinkers this summer and sent the gelding to Newmarket’s July course, where his spark returned, just failing to catch Mitrosonfire by half length.
He improved further on his last handicap run five weeks ago at Ascot when he looked a likely winner entering the final furlong, just failing to hold on in a blanket finish behind course specialist Fresh.
NO RECOLLECTION (3.47) showed plenty of promise when second on his hurdling debut at Uttoxeter in June. That was confirmed a month later at Worcester when he scored in a two-mile maiden, beating Al Zaraqaan, who has won since.
The Alan King-trained four-year looks sure to improve further on his handicap bow in the Fairfax Saddles Sponsors Huntingdon Trainer Championship Handicap Hurdle.
