One-eyed cat found under car bonnet after 150-mile Gateshead to Glenrothes adventure

A one-eyed cat was found under a car bonnet in Fife more than 150 miles from home. Tabby cat Josie had gone missing from her home in Gateshead, near Newcastle, 10 days earlier before she was found under the smoking bonnet of garage worker Conor Crawford's car.

Conor had driven to work at the Mazda garage in Kirkcaldy on Saturday, October 1, when he noticed a burning smell coming from the car. When he opened his bonnet to check the engine, the petrified moggy leaped out.

Mass rammy outside Digga D's Glasgow gig amid claims of fake tickets and long queues

A mass rammy broke out at a Digga D concert in Glasgow last night amid claims of fake tickets and long queues. Police were called to the O2 Academy on Eglinton Street after the alarm was raised during the rapper's concert on Monday night. Footage shared on social media shows dozens of officers at the scene.

Two 16-year-old boys were nicked for alleged threatening and abusive behaviour. It is understood crowds of youngsters were unable to access the venue amid fighting outside, fake tickets and drunk teens.

Liz Truss faces mounting anger from MPs as Tory party conference descends into bitter in-fighting

Liz Truss is facing growing anger from her own MPs as the Conservative conference in Birmingham descends into in-fighting. Members of the Cabinet have been publicly urging the Prime Minister to raise benefits in line with inflation and questioning her humiliating U-turn on the top rate of income tax.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman said today she was "disappointed" by Truss’s mid-conference tax U-turn and accused Tory rebels like Michael Gove of staging a "coup".

Violent Scots rapist who abused and controlled ex-partners jailed for seven years

Serial domestic abuser and rapist Rian Hood has been caged for his crimes (Daily Record)

A Scots rapist who was found guilty of raping and abusing four women has been jailed for more than seven years. Sales advisor Rian Hood, 31, from Kilmarnock, raped one woman, sexually assaulted two others and subjected all of his victims to violent attacks.

A jury heard that Hood degraded and controlled his partners, tracking their movements and blocking their contact with friends and family. He was found guilty of ten charges against women, all carried out during the course of relationships.

At the High Court in Glasgow today, he was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison, and a three year extended sentence during which he will be closely supervised.

People of State Pension age to get £300 on top of Winter Fuel Payment from next month

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recently updated online guidance to make it simpler for eight million pensioner households to find out if they are eligible for a £300 cost of living payment this winter.

This one-off lump sum will be added to their annual Winter Fuel Payment, due to be paid over November and December, but to be eligible for the extra financial support pensioners need to have met certain conditions in September.

To be eligible for this year's Winter Fuel Payment, you must have been born on or before September 25, 1956 and lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of 19 to 25 September 2022 - this is called the ‘qualifying week’.
