I absolutely love discovering new places for breakfast, and often like to shy away from chain restaurants and visit smaller, independent spots.
There's nothing better than a nice big breakfast to start off your day. Considering on an average day I usually just opt for toast or some porridge, breakfast out and about feels like a real treat.
I decided to try out 'Our Coffee Shop' in Spital, Wirral, after reading rave reviews online about their poached eggs. Our Coffee shop serves up a range of different dishes with an extensive breakfast menu that's beyond impressive.

From freshly baked cakes to stuffed jacket potatoes, burgers, salads and even an afternoon tea selection, I knew I had to give this place a try. Their breakfast menu was packed to say the least - but how did it taste?
As soon as I entered the café I was greeted with a warm smile and invited to take a seat. At the time, the café was relatively quiet, so I had a lot of choice on where I wanted to eat my breakfast.
Situated in the middle of some shops in the Lancelyn Precinct, I'd definitely describe Our Coffee Shop as an absolute hidden gem. It had plenty of character, and had a really charming 'vintage' feel to it.
Its classic decor added to the cosiness and really made it feel like a proper homely café. Despite its old school aesthetic, the Our Coffee Shop menu actually had quite a modern twist to it.
From courgette pancake stacks with warm homemade berry compote to a vegan breakfast with falafel and sautéed spinach, their menu was really quite unique. I decided to go for their popular gluten free eggs benedict, and my boyfriend went for their fry-up called 'Our English One'.
The eggs benedict (priced at £7.60) include 2 free range poached eggs, baby spinach and BBQ honey glazed bacon, all served on a warm toasted English muffin with thick hollandaise sauce. For fry-up fans, this one was basically 'the works' - with two award-winning local 'Muffs' sausages, 2 free range eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 1 hash brown, black pudding, tomato, and 2 pieces of buttered toast.
What I really liked about Our Coffee Shop was the use of fresh local ingredients. Everything in the cosy café was clearly made with love and not just churned out as quickly as possible.
My eggs benedict was beyond perfect. Although I would've liked it if my eggs were slightly softer, the flavours were undeniably delicious. I really enjoyed the combination of the sweet and salty bacon, which worked amazingly with the hollandaise sauce.
Everything about my breakfast tasted fresh, particularly the hollandaise sauce which was so thick and creamy. I could definitely tell that the eggs were free range, and the muffin was soft and delicate.
The fry-up (priced at £9.40) was quite frankly massive, and brought over on a monster plate. Although big, it still managed to look beautifully presented and delicious, with local ingredients aplenty.
Highlights for the fry-up included the locally sourced sausages and the hash brown, which my boyfriend said was 'unlike any other hash brown he'd tasted'. It had a fresh unique flavour, unlike the usual frozen ones we stick in the oven.
The best part about Our Coffee Shop wasn't just the food, it was the atmosphere too. The café was so friendly, and actually felt quite nostalgic in a way.
I'll definitely be visiting here again, who knows, I might even tackle their fry-up next time. You can find Our Coffee Shop at Lancelyn Precinct, 7 Spital Rd, Birkenhead, Wirral CH63 9JP.
